Facts and figures
1. Around one in 25 children and young people of school age have experienced the death of a parent, brother or sister - many more are affected by the death of someone else close.
2. Every 30 minutes a child is bereaved of a parent - this equates to 20,000 children a year.
3. Studies have shown that about 70 per cent of primary schools had at least one pupil on their roll who had experienced a significant bereavement in the last two years.
